Concordia Sees Massive False Positives Among COVID-19 Tests

Concordia University Irvine announced today that its outbreak of COVID-19 was largely the result of false positives. The Vine reported earlier this week that the university discovered 65 active cases among its students and staff. All positive tests were identified using the Sofia II Antigen rapid testing machine. When retested using an outside PCR lab test, 55 of those cases were deemed negative.

The Orange County Health Care Agency (OCHCA) has advised Concordia University Irvine to discontinue the antigen test for asymptomatic individuals and instead use the more accurate PCR molecular test.

The university is strongly recommending that students returning from travel out of state or the country get tested upon their return. Classes will remain online indefinitely. For more information, see the university’s COVID-19 update.
