Should Irvine be Drawn into Voting Districts?

2024 might bring big changes to how Irvinites vote for their representatives. Currently, residents vote for all four City Councilmembers and Irvine’s Mayor in at-large elections.

The city is considering a switch to by-district voting, where each resident only votes for the City Councilmember who represents her district.

Irvine will hold a special election on March 5th to determine if the city should switch from at-large to by-district voting, and whether to expand the City Council to six members.
